Meet Alex

A relaxed, practical approach to psychology - without judgement.

Alex Scagliola is a registered psychologist who believes therapy works best when you feel comfortable enough to speak openly and be yourself. His approach is warm, down-to-earth, collaborative and non-judgemental. Rather than telling you what you should do, Alex works alongside you to understand what's happening, makes sense of the challenges you're facing and supports you with finding practical ways forward.

Alex has extensive experience supporting adults, teenagers, children and families across a broad range of concerns and life circumstances. He is also qualified in family therapy and child inclusive practice, giving him particular experience in understanding relationships, parenting and family dynamics.

He supports people experiencing challenges including:

  • anxiety, stress and feeling overwhelmed
  • depression and low mood
  • trauma and difficult life experiences
  • major life changes or periods of crisis
  • relationship and family difficulties
  • parenting challenges
  • men's mental health and wellbeing

His easy-going style can make therapy feel like a genuine, useful conversation - while drawing on established psychological approaches and clinical experience. There is no single approach that works for everyone. Alex draws from a range of evidence-based psychological therapies and adapts his approach to the individual, rather than expecting the individual to fit a particular therapy.

His practice is oriented on evidence-based models of therapy and incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and psychoeducation.

The aim is not simply to talk about what's wrong. It is to help you better understand yourself, develop useful strategies and work towards changes that matter to you.

Appointments are available via telehealth, allowing you to speak with Alex via phone or video from anywhere in Australia.

Appointments have no out-of-pocket expense, for clients with a current Mental Health Treatment Plan (available from your GP).
